Narvik 2029
Narvik and Norway will host the 2029 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships!

Inspired by the success of the Arctic Race of Norway, and with the magnificent North Norwegian nature as a backdrop, the Alpine World Ski Championships will be a project that promotes and develops the whole of Northern Norway, creating long-term effects for the entire region.
Narvik first applied to organise the World Championships in 2027, but was unsuccessful in the fierce competition that eventually saw Crans Montana (Switzerland) awarded the World Championships. In May 2023, a new official application was submitted to FIS for the 2029 World Championships. This time, FIS agreed that Narvik had the best application, and the Championships went to Norway for the first time since 1952!
Being a central hub in Northern Norway, Narvik makes it possible to host the most compact world championships ever. This includes innovative and sustainable solutions to temporarily expand accommodation capacity in town, using cruise ships.
Narvik 2029 will also be an example of sustainable sports event. The aim is to set new standards for the organisation and execution of this type of competition. The use of locally produced hydropower will be at the centre of this ambition.
Arctic Sport has contributed to Narvik's application to host the 2029 Alpine World Ski Championships 2029 in several ways, including concept development and sponsorship work. Knut-Eirik Dybdal, CEO of Arctic Sport, was chairman of the applicant company. In the future, Arctic Sport will continue to help the Local Organizing Committee in Narvik realise the unique opportunities the event provides for Northern Norway.
