The race was first held in 2013 and has since its inception developed into the largest international cycling race in Scandinavia and one of Norway's largest sporting events.

The race combines our local knowledge with the international expertise of Amaury Sport Organisation (A. S. O. ), organizer of the Tour de France and some of the greatest sports events in the world (Paris Marathon, Dakar Rally…). Since 2013 we have visited both larger and small places in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark. In 2021, the event crossed for the first time an international border for a stage finish in Finland. In 2022, we involved for the first time our southern neighbours from the County of Trøndelag. And what a welcome we received!

Arctic Race of Norway holds a high level of quality both organizationally, media-wise and sporting, which also gives ARN a place in proseries - the second highest division for international bike races. Every year, several Tour de France teams and some of the world's best riders participate in the ARN.

TV images from the race are available in 190 countries via 58 different broadcasters, including Norwegian TV2, Eurosport and other central TV channels such as L'Equipe in France, Caracol in Colombia and SBS in Australia. ARN is the 8th most popular bike race in the world on Facebook (>120k fans) and had more than 19 million video views in 2024, only on the event's own platforms.
